This individual will lead client engagements at a specialized power engineering firm integrating regulatory strategy with technical work products. This role focuses on complex utility and infrastructure matters. It is fully remote with exposure to system-level projects.

  • The regulatory strategy, policy, and compliance group helps integrate engineering work products into the client’s regulatory environment, aligning technical work with regulatory requirements, compliance frameworks, and practical implementation.
  • The firm supports electric utilities, transmission owners and developers, infrastructure investors, and large energy users (including data center platforms) on complex, system-level matters.
  • This is a nonpracticing role designed for individuals with legal training in utility or energy regulation who are interested in applying that background in an advisory capacity. The role is structured as a long-term, career-oriented position for experienced professionals seeking to lead engagement delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead client engagements involving regulatory strategy, policy, and compliance matters across complex utility and infrastructure environments.
  • Lead preparation and development of regulatory analyses, filings support, and strategic advisory materials.
  • Interpret regulatory frameworks and translate requirements into actionable guidance for utility operations, compliance programs, and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Manage workstreams across complex engagements, integrating regulatory analysis with engineering work products and technical inputs.
  • Work directly with client legal, regulatory, engineering, and operational teams to develop practical, implementable solutions.
  • Lead or support development of regulatory positions and responses in high-stakes proceedings.
  • Develop structured work products, including requirements mapping, compliance frameworks, and analytical outputs.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. or equivalent legal training.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in utility regulation, energy law, or related advisory roles; candidates with substantially greater experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in one or more of the following environments:
    • Law firm or regulatory practice
    • Investor-owned utility
    • Municipal or cooperative utility
    • Federal or quasi-governmental entity
    • Consulting or advisory organization
    • Demonstrated ability to lead complex matters and translate regulatory requirements into actionable guidance in operational or compliance contexts
    • Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with federal agencies, reliability organizations, or state public utility commissions.
  • Experience supporting or leading regulatory proceedings such as rate cases, rulemakings, or compliance matters.
  • Familiarity with reliability, risk, or compliance frameworks within electric utility environments.
